This letter verifies the employment of Tariq Ahmed with PSINet Inc. (formerly iSTAR Internet Inc.). Tariq Ahmed’s full-time work term placement at PSINet took place from January 13th 1997 to April 17th 1998, with the position of UNIX Systems Administrator. I was Tariq Ahmed’s manager during his employment with PSINet, and can therefore verify the duties he performed and the experience he gained during his employment with PSINet. Over the course of his employment with PSINet, Tariq Ahmed’s duties included the design, testing, implementation, and maintenance of the hardware and software architecture for PSINet’s iCOMMERCE electronic commerce product. This required UNIX Sun Solaris 2.5/2.5.1 systems administration to implement encrypted backup procedures, system integrity, UNIX security, network security, firewall maintenance, fault tolerance, software upgrades, operating system upgrades, hardware upgrades, network and system monitoring tools, software installations, system troubleshooting, and database maintenance. To expand the product offering and a continued value added service, Tariq was also required to integrate and expand upon the product base. This required investigating new products, gathering requirements, product testing, and product implementation. Other duties as a Systems Administrator and Integrator included customer interfacing, sales engineering, knowledge base documentation, and web mastering. Skills and knowledge Tariq Ahmed utilized and gained for this position at PSINet include: TCP/IP network administration, UNIX Solaris 2.5/2.5.1 systems administration, Unix shell programming, iCAT Electronic Commerce Suite 3.0, Open Market Transact 2.3/3.0, SSH, DNS, FTP, Telnet, SMTP, Samba, NFS, NIS, HTTP, HTML, Milkyway Blackhole 3.0, iCAT ICL, Javascript, C, CGI, Windows 95, Photoshop, Oracle Enterprise Server 7.3, Perl, and Tcl.
