Gleb Esman's Story

Originally i was going to go to airport, but lawyer actually advised me to drive to Hwy 16 / Preston to apply- this place i guess the best bet for Ottawa area people by many's opinion. I am radio-engineer by diploma but actually applied for Lead computer systems analyst.

This is not a problem as long as there is *ANY* engineering degree and 3+ yrs of experience. Took about 15 minutes to do the whole thing, no question asked. Nice!

Common sense rules of communication with US Customs are:

  • Don't carry extra things/papers, that might cause them to grill you or ask extra questions.
  • Don't ask - don't tell. Answer only "yes", "no" and give the shortest answer possible. Answering: "Yes, because....." - caused me number of troubles before.

Another time I was carrying cool walkie-talkie (actually dual-band transceiver) and that cost me extra 15 minutes of explanations. As you mentioned on your WEB site - nice dress, not overdone, politeness and minimum food for their curiocity.

Extra benefit of that spot (and it worthwhile to mention on your site) is that right after the one gets a TN - there is a few hundred meters drive to Social Security office to apply for SSN. So I'll get my SSN number by friday (by phone) and when next week i'll fly to San Francisco - it will be easier to open bank accounts, PO box, fill-in employment paperwork etc...
