TEAM SPYDER - ON LOCATION

There is just so many places in Ottawa that you can go. This summer we covered about 1% of the possible land we can ride. Besides the obvious Gatineau Park which is a realm in itself, there are many trails in the suburbs one can utilize.

I myself happen to like taking jumps at the BMX track beside Gloucester High School. You normally have to hop the fence, but if the guys who maintain it are there, they're cool with letting you ride. Unfortunately, they had to make their BMX racers more nationally competitive so they altered the track big time, and the dimensions totally don't work for mountain bikes. Which kind of sucks now, but it's still fun.

Taking Jumps

I've been fantasizing about a motorcross bike actually. For me biking isn't about exercise, I get enough of that at the gym. It's for the thrill. But you get wicked tired going up hill, I just want down hill action (IE speed). When I watch TSN motorcross championships, damn they fly high. I need that! Actually at this BMX track I saw some kids on BMXes taking the same jumps, they were getting some pretty serious air.

A really really rad place is The Bog. It's off of Anderson Rd which is off Innes in Orleans. They got this wooden plank trail going around in a loop, most of it through this 10ft deep peat moss. I ramped off into it once, it's like a huge sponge. In some cases you have to make sure you don't take a spill into the pond. There's like snakes and things you don't want to know about.

The Bog!

I can't believe I used the word rad...
