The first round was played on our server where NIL8 had a definite ping
advantage. The round started out with large rushes from both teams, with
our defense able to thwart CBC's initial attack we took an early one cap
lead. Offenses from both sides kept up the pressure on both teams. CBC's
first cap came thanks to [CBC]One87 about 5 minutes into the match. It was
almost even at the start, with us pushing a bit harder, and we were able to
build up our momentum and pull ahead with a comfortable lead. About 10 minutes
into the game we lost a guy, but with our back up dudes standing by closely
watching the game (we now have our games live on irc.gamesnet.net on channel
nil8live) another guy jumped in and continued where the other left off with
only about a minute of man downtime. I don't think we gave CBC much of a chance to
get settled in their defensive positions which may have given us a strategic
advantage. Though their efforts to protect the flag was most valiant. On the defensive
side our hard hitters had their sleeves rolled up and kept the fort secured
as much as possible (well this is OPENFIRE after all). Having a faster rate of
consistant caps allowed us to pull off a win of 130 to 50.
Round 2 moved to their server where pings were more even. CZ2 has always
been a map where confusion and spam tend to prevail, but on this night there
seemed to be a plethora of both. The caps were steady for both teams until
NIL8 got a full-map cap to stretch out into an early lead. A constant stream
of spam at 3 created a bit of havoc, but our players adjusted and were rewarded
with another full cap about mid-match. With a comfortable lead, our guys
focused on maintaining our lead and the round ended with NIL8 out in front
for the successful defense of rung #3.
