Tariq's Honda Prelude

The Honda Prelude SRV (aka the SI in the U.S). I love this car! I remember so vivdly when this generation of Prelude came out. I was sitting on the school bus going home and one drove by. I saw the weird quarter moon tail lights, and bullet shaped front... I knew I had to have one, one day.

Over the years I'd see one parked in a parking lot, finding myself taking peaks through the window, and just couldn't get over how stealthy it looked. It looked dangerous, especially the silver coloured jobs. What I love the most is the techno dash, I need as many flashing LEDs and console lights as possible. Too bad it didn't have a digital speedometer, that would have been da bomb!

So I finished college, and started working. In my younger days (Tariq V1.0) I was very responsible, dedicated, and extremely logical. So I bought a 1987 Mazda 323, economical, handy, and a piece of crap basically. No A/C in the hot humid summers of Ottawa, and luke warm heat in the Siberian winters. What made it somewhat bearable was installing an Alpine TDM-7534 Deck, Pioneer 300W 10" bandpass sub woofer, and four 6.5" Alpine midrange drivers.

The bass kept me going, and plus I had my parents 190HP Camry V6 LE to boot around in. So I was saving up to hopefully get married one day, and put a down payment on a house and all that. Then I came to the realization that with so many things about your life you have options you can exercise to direct where you want your life to go. Like with education, career, etc... But some things are just up to destiny, even if you don't believe in it, things like finding your soul mate will happen when it happens. You can't plan when you'll find him/her. Because of that, you can't put the rest of your life on hold either. Some of my other goals are to live in California (happening now), learn how to play the keyboard again (I used to know how to play when I was 13 and 14, but my dad is highly religious and is anti music, and my mom felt learning French was more useful), sign up at a gym and become actively fit (happening now), and buy a car I truly love driving (along with having a competition level sound system to feed my passion for music).

Plus my whole life I had been living this hyper conservative life style (would you believe when I was 16 I actually deposited a $2 bill in the bank). I've always went out of my way to help people and treat them right, but in redefining who I was from the age of 21 to 24, one thing I learned is that you gotta treat yourself right. Looking through the Auto Trader I saw two super low mileage, never winter driven, black 1993 SRV Preludes. With only 44K km (or 27K miles), on them, how could you go wrong. When I went for the test drives I absolutely could not believe this car. It sticks like glue to the ground, especially with Z rated tires on them.

Saw the Lude in the Auto Trader, went to the dealer and fell in love. 42000km, 1993, never winter driven, and previously owned by a guy who loved it so much he wouldn't even let Honda drive it off the truck.

Moved Pioneer 10" bandpass sub and amp from my Mazda 323 into the Lude.

Oct 23rd, 98

Installed a Rockford 2 Channel 125.2 Amp and Two 12" RF DVC subs in a sealed box configuration. Pioneer sub and amp removed.

Dec 11th, 98

Alpine CDA-7949 CD head unit. With old Jensen 4ch amp to drive mids.

Focal 136KX 5.25" drivers and tweeters in the front. Dumped the Jensen and went with some hard core power using an MTX 4300x 4 Channel.

May 8th, 99 Focal 165KX 6.5" drivers and tweeters in the back. First stage complete, sound system is sweet!
May 22nd, 99 Secured my baby with a Clifford Electronics Concept 40. Coded valet switch, dual zone proxmity sensor, and the usual shock sensors.
Aug 7th, 99

KONI adjustable shocks installed with NEUSPEED race springs. Car was dropped by 1.5" and I BARELY make it over my speed bumps. But the ride is awesome. Thanks to Street Wize, absolutely incredible service.

Brake rotors were dying on me, and Honda was gonna charge an arm and a leg so I went all out with PowerSLOT slotted rotors, and STILLEN METAL-MATRIX performance brake pads. Plus, since we're working on that whole area, put in SCV stainless steel braided high pressure brake hoses.

Sigh, you put so much work and effort into something only to have it destroyed. Prelude destroyed in an accident prone location along the 580. I just happened to have my digital camera on me, and here's what is left.
