The Profile
Who is this guy?

Let's first start with the pronounciation of the name. Because of the nature of the English language, the letter Q always has a trailing u after it. This tends to cause confusion, and results in most North Americans pronouncing it as "Ta-reek", though oddly enough most British people seem to get it perfectly. The actual pronounciation is more like "Tar-Wreck", though most friends go with "Terek" (rhymes with Derek); either way is cool with me.

I'm a 34 year old technologist who has spent almost my entire life dedicated to using technology to do things better. My first experience with a computer was at the age of 7 or so when our school purchased a bunch of TRS-80's, and I got a VIC-20 shortly thereafter. Nowadays I am a Project Leader and Technical Architect for a prominent internet company here in Silicon Valley. I specialize in Knowledge and Content Management Systems, Portals, and other Web based technologies which help boost workflow efficiency and automate processes within the Enterprise.

The History behind Dopejam.com

One of the biggest questions I'm asked is what is a DopeJam, or where that name came from. The first version of the site came about back in the late 90's when I wanted to put up a personal site - and during those days people were fiercely cybersquatting. Almost every domain you could imagine was already registered (including the entire qwertyuiop.com), so I just started trying random combinations of words. As a goof in my 20's my friends and I would freestyle rap, and the phrase Dope Jam came about - dope meaning good in this context. So in trying "dopejam.com", the domain was actually unregistered to my surprise, and so it has been dopejam.com ever since.

I'm a wee bit of a fan of the Matrix franchise. My office at work is Matrix themed (all 3 monitors run the Matrix code) with a 6ft high Matrix Revolutions stand-up display, as well as various posters throughout. So it seemed appropriate to theme my website along the lines of the Matrix. The Matrix'ish pics of myself have an interesting story in that the company where I worked was doing a "how fun it is to work here" campaign and wanted to profile interesting people I guess - and my cube stands out quite a bit so they dressed me up as Neo and did a whole photoshoot thing (IE, I don't walk around like this in public!).
