2020 07 Mountain Biking at Northstar Bike Park in Tahoe in the year of COVID – Just Hold On!

on
August 4, 2020

The gang was recently able to hit up the Northstar bike in Lake Tahoe. We went on a Thursday thinking it would be empty, but on the contrary completely packed. With only one lift running, and social distancing, it resulted in very long lines. But good fun nonetheless!

This…

Rapid Review: Mobius X8 Wrist Guard

on
June 29, 2020

As you saw from the previous post – I broke my wrist back in December which resulted in having to get surgery. After months of recovery and the wrist feeling pretty good, I was ready to get back out there and start mountain biking again.

Though they did say it…

2019-10 Flume Trail Ride

on
October 16, 2019

The crew and I were able to squeeze in a Flume Trail ride up in Tahoe before it got too cold. Weather turned out to be a perfect 65 degrees.

2019-07 North Star at Tahoe

on
July 21, 2019

First ride of the season at North Star started off quite dicey. Took awhile to warm up and never really got to the level I was riding last year. Hoping the second trip there will be a few steps back in that direction.

But had fun none the less. Flickr…

Rapid Review: Giro Remedy Full Face Helmet

on
September 18, 2016

I’ve had this helmet for a few years now and thought I’d write a review of it.

Pros:

Good deal for the money.
Tons of graphics variety.
Uses a buckle instead of a d-loop.

Cons:

At 1000+ grams, it’s kind of heavy. Definitely feel it in the neck after a day…

Review: XPEDO FaceOff 13 Flat Pedals

on
October 19, 2014

Is there really that much that can go into a pedal? I find these top 10 pedal lists interesting as I doubt for the average person there would be any discernible  difference at the level we’re talking about (high end high quality brands).

The immediate factors include price, weight, and thickness….

Review: TLD Lopes Knee/shin guards

on
September 30, 2014

In a former post I detailed an incident where I sliced open my skin during a crash and had to get a few stitches. Ever since then I’ve taken the topic of body armor quite seriously!

One of the first things I bought for more heavier riding, particularly downhill when…

Review: Mavic Rush Mountain Bike Shoes

on
December 29, 2013

The Mavic Rush is the first mountain bike shoe I purchased after a 10 year hiatus in mountain biking. I didn’t spend much time researching shoes prior to making this purchase, but I did note that these tended to score well amongst owners, so when a sale came along…

Review: G-Form Knee Pads

on
November 24, 2013

Earlier in the year I took a jump and didn’t land it properly – resulting in a severe laceration (as documented in this prior post), and ever since then I’ve taken padding and armor more seriously (prior to that I didn’t really care about the odd scrapes and bruises).

My…
